The Girls Next Door is a first fast paced police procedural book in the Detective Eden Berrisford series by author
A teenage girl, Deanna Barker is mistaken for her brother, and murdered. Six months later Katie and three of her friends are in jail waiting the trial for Deanna’s murder. As the trial date approaches few of Katie’s friends are attacked and warned to keep quiet. Detective Eden becomes personally involved when her niece and Katie’s best friend Jess is kidnapped three local teenagers are assaulted and one, Jess disappears. Will Eden be able to get to Jess in time and what is Jess’s connection with Deanna’s murder?
I liked how The characters were developed in this book and am looking forward to reading more about Eden and her team. Mel Sherratt portrayed peer pressure and how a bad decision can change your life completely in an instant very well making the book believable. I especially liked the letters Katie wrote to her mom which reflected her emotional state beautifully
Overall an enjoyable read even though I felt the ending was a little rushed
